Al-Maliki: There is no intention to approve the general amnesty law
Member of the Parliamentary Legal Committee, Representative Raed Al-Maliki, revealed that there is no real intention on the part of the government to pass the general amnesty law.
Al-Maliki said, in a special statement to Al-Sa'a network, "If there had been a real intention to pass the law, the government would have sent the draft amnesty law in an acceptable form, instead of sending a definition of only 3 lines . "
Al-Maliki stated that “the definition of the law is not clear even to members of the Legal Committee, as it did not specify the crimes it covers . ”
A member of the Legal Committee pointed out that “the committee inquired with judges, experts, and lawyers, and it became clear that the current amendment may cause people to be admitted to prisons instead of being removed from them . ”
He continued: “The government says that it sent the amendment to us, and asked us to amend it.” He was surprised by “the government’s request to the House of Representatives to amend the law,” stressing that “it must pass the judiciary, national security, and several parties . ”
He added, "The Legal Committee demanded that the amendment be included on the agenda despite its lack of clarity and their lack of conviction in it, but it was not included," stressing that "the general amnesty law will not be passed during this electoral cycle."
A few days ago, the President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, confirmed the presence of “large numbers” inside Iraqi prisons “without charges,” stressing the end of the prisoner file and the release of those whose sentences have expired .
