    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
The Parliamentary Legal Committee commented, today, Wednesday (July 3, 2024), on the deterrent steps against those who attack the Iraqi judiciary inside or outside the country.
Committee member Aref Al-Hamami told Baghdad Today, “Anyone who attacks the Iraqi judiciary inside the country will be subject to legal action,” stressing that “no person or party can attack the judicial institution or undermine its independence, and this is something that all political and popular parties agree on, as the judiciary is the safety valve of the Iraqi state.”
Al-Hamami said, "Iraq has the legal right to take legal action against anyone who accuses and attacks the Iraqi judiciary from any external party," noting that "there are specialized international courts, but at the same time Iraq does not deal with ineffective personal lawsuits."
He added that "any official international position towards the Iraqi judiciary, Iraq will have a political and diplomatic position to deter this transgression," stressing that "the recent attack on the head of the Supreme Judicial Council in Iraq, between the support of all Iraqi parties for the judicial institution and the rejection of any attack on it."
A bill on the US Congress’s agenda, which would punish senior officials in the Iraqi state, has sparked widespread diplomatic and political anger in the country, as it affects the head of the highest judicial body, Faiq Zidane, by placing him at the top of the list of those targeted by the US project.
Several political forces rejected, last Saturday and Sunday, the American accusations against the head of the Supreme Judicial Council, Judge Faiq Zidane, and considered them interference in Iraqi affairs.
