    The Health Insurance Fund announced, on Thursday, the numbers of individuals and institutions covered by health insurance in its first and second phases.
    The fund's director, Ali Ahmed, said in a statement reported by the official news agency, and reviewed by "Al-Eqtisad News", that "the number of those covered in the second phase of the Health Insurance Authority reached 700,000 insured persons, and in the first phase 300,000 insured persons, and thus the total number is one million insured persons in Baghdad Governorate, and the insured persons of the second phase were divided for employees with their family members, numbering 328,500 insured persons, as well as the social protection network, which included 251,500, as well as 120,000 for retirees and ordinary citizens on an optional basis." 
    Ahmed added: “We have a previous contract with the Department of Popular Clinics affiliated with the Ministry of Health, which is represented by contracting with private wings affiliated with government hospitals, as well as a number of popular clinics and investment dental centers today. Contracts were signed with the private sector and included within the health insurance system represented by private hospitals, private laboratories and dental centers distributed among various areas of Baghdad Governorate in order to encourage the private sector to invest in the health sector.” 
    He added, "20 institutions were identified in the first phase for those covered by the Health Insurance Authority, and in the second phase, 28 institutions were included, some of them belong to the Intelligence Service, the Ministry of Higher Education, the Ministry of Electricity, the University of Baghdad, Al-Mustansiriya University, the Central Bank, the Baghdad Municipality, and the Ministry of Health for some of its institutions. There are other departments covered by health insurance, in addition to the Ministry of Oil with 5 of its formations."
