The Council of Ministers in the Kurdistan Region discussed the issue of unifying the salaries of its retirees with their counterparts in the federal government, while welcoming the clarification of the Federal Court regarding the process of localizing salaries.
The Council stated in a statement that it “held its regular weekly meeting, chaired by the Prime Minister of the region, Masrour Barzani, and discussed a number of files, including the issue of unifying the salaries of Kurdistan Region retirees with their counterparts in the federal government, to achieve equality in salaries, privileges and financial dues for all retirees in the region, numbering 277,541 people, where the total monthly expenditure on their salaries amounts to 122 billion dinars.”
According to the statement, Cabinet Secretary Amanj Rahim explained “the most important differences between the two retirement laws in force in the region, No. 27 of 2006, and the Federal Unified Retirement Law No. 9 of 2014,” noting that “the application of the 2014 law in general is in the interest of the region’s retirees, as it guarantees them equality with their peers in the federal government in terms of the amount of the retirement salary and other financial dues, especially since the minimum salary for a retiree in the region currently stands at 220,000 dinars, while the minimum salary in the rest of Iraq stands at 500,000 dinars, in addition to the cost of living allowances that are paid monthly to retirees in Baghdad, amounting to 100,000 dinars, in addition to their receipt of end-of-service bonuses based on the sum of the last salary and the allowances, not just the nominal salary.”
The Council discussed “the issue of June salaries for salary recipients in the region, and the salaries of May and June for the Peshmerga and Asayish, in addition to the latest developments related to the audit and review of the payroll of Peshmerga members by the joint team of the Financial Supervision Bureaus of the region and the federal government,” welcoming “the clarification issued by the President of the Federal Court regarding the process of settling the salaries of litigants in the Kurdistan Region in government or private banks, within the banks authorized and approved by the Central Bank of Iraq operating in the Kurdistan Region, which implement the process of settling the salaries of the region within the framework of the (My Bank Account) project under the supervision and instructions of the Central Bank.”
