    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
Economic expert Alaa Jaloub Al-Fahd revealed today, Saturday (July 20, 2024), that the cost of serving visitors to Karbala exceeds 600 billion dinars per day, indicating that this service has baffled economic minds.
Al-Fahd said in an interview with Baghdad Today, "The great contribution of the people who own the processions in serving the visitors of Imam Hussein contributed greatly to lifting the burden from the shoulders of the state as well as the holy shrines, which bear a small part and the rest is borne by the various processions, in providing food, drink and other services even with regard to cleaning and others, as the processions bear the responsibility of providing food and shopping for the visitors at a rate exceeding (90%) and some times it reaches even (100%)."
He explained that “serving the visitors of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) has puzzled economic minds, as all economic schools agree that every service has a price, except for serving the visitors of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), which has no price, and all economic theories stop at this service, and everyone serves the visitors without any financial compensation, but they are the ones who spend the money.”
The economic expert added, "The number of visitors to Karbala is estimated at a minimum of (20) million visitors, and with a simple calculation, each visitor may cost the procession at least (30) thousand dinars to feed on a daily basis. This means spending (600) billion Iraqi dinars on a daily basis just to feed the visitors by the owners of the Husseini processions."
