    Baghdad Today - Sulaymaniyah
Former member of the Finance Committee, Ahmed Al-Haj Rashid, confirmed today, Thursday (September 19, 2024), that the issue of employees’ salaries in the region requires a political decision by Baghdad.
Al-Hajj Rashid said in an interview with Baghdad Today, "The issue of salaries requires a political decision that obligates the regional government to submit to the judicial procedures stipulated in the decisions of the Federal Court."
He added, "There is political courtesy to the main parties in the Kurdistan Region, due to the proximity of the elections in 2025," stressing that "everyone wants to gather the largest number of political alliances, and this is the reason behind the salary crisis, which can only be solved by a political decision."
Economic expert Othman Karim confirmed on Saturday (September 14, 2024) that the middle class in the Kurdistan Region is currently non-existent.
Karim said in an interview with Baghdad Today, "There are two classes in the region at the present time, the rich class and the poor class, and there is no middle class at all, due to the salary crisis and what followed it 10 years ago."
He added, "The salary crisis has affected the markets, created family problems, disrupted public life and markets in particular, and led to the destabilization of economic activity in general, as the employee only receives his salary every 60 days."
The delay in paying salaries to employees in the region has cast its shadow over the markets in Kurdistan, creating a state of economic stagnation despite the advent of the holy month of Ramadan, which often moves the wheel of supply and demand in the markets. However, what happened in northern Iraq is different, according to a former member of the Kurdistan Parliament.
