The Parliamentary Legal Committee confirmed that concerns about the Personal Status Law are misunderstood, noting that all objections and comments about the law will be taken into consideration.
Committee member Raed Al-Maliki told the official agency that "there is no imposition of will in passing the law, and today's session for the second reading ended based on the proposals that will be taken into account and studied in formulating the draft law."
He pointed out that "the essence of the law is to give Iraqis the freedom to choose their personal status according to the constitution, which guarantees it in Article 41."
Last Monday, the House of Representatives concluded its discussion of the proposal to amend the Personal Status Law.
The media department of the House of Representatives said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): "The House of Representatives has completed the report and discussion of the proposed law amending the Personal Status Law No. (188) of 1959, Articles 2 and 10." End 25
