The Parliamentary Legal Committee confirmed, on Friday, that all objections to the Civil Status Law will be taken into consideration, while indicating that there is no imposition of will in passing the law.

Committee member Raed Al-Maliki said in a press statement: "All objections and observations about the Personal Status Law will be taken into consideration," noting that "concerns about the law are misunderstood by the media and by parties that attributed non-existent clauses to the law."

He added that "there is no imposition of will in passing the law and today's session for the second reading ended based on the proposals that will be taken into consideration and studied in formulating the draft law."

He pointed out that "the essence of the law is to give Iraqis the freedom to choose their personal status according to the constitution, which guaranteed it in Article 41."

The House of Representatives concluded its discussion of the proposed amendment to the Personal Status Law last Monday.

The media department of the House of Representatives said in a statement that "the House of Representatives has concluded its report and discussion of the proposed law amending the Personal Status Law No. (188) of 1959, Articles 2 and 10."
