Trade: Establishing shopping centers (hypermarkets) in all governorates

As part of the programs to expand and improve the services provided to citizens, the Ministry of Commerce intends to establish new shopping centers in the future in all governorates similar to the (hypermarket) system, and will start in five governorates, with the aim of eliminating the high prices of food items in local markets.
The official spokesman for the ministry, Muhammad Hanoun, told Al-Sabah: The plan prepared by his ministry includes the return of central markets in a developed and modern way, which it has already started experimentally in the central market of Al-Amel neighborhood and converting it into a (hypermarket) with an area of up to ten thousand square meters.
The aforementioned project promises a distinctive shopping experience that will be carried out using electronic payment and in a way that meets the needs of the family, as its wings include food items, electrical and electronic devices, in addition to all durable devices, which he confirmed are sold at 20 percent less than their counterparts in local markets.
Hanoun pointed out that the experiment will save the consumer effort and time by finding his needs in one place, by adopting advanced supported and competitive shopping services for citizens, in addition to employing unemployed youth, in addition to providing other services from restaurants and entertainment games for children.
In the same context, he revealed that the expansion of the establishment of shopping centers (hypermarkets) will be carried out as a second phase in all governorates, which will begin in Najaf, Wasit, Nineveh, Kirkuk and Basra, in partnership with the private sector, with the aim of making the project a success and creating a spirit of competition between the private and public sectors, and eliminating high prices in local markets, stressing the completion of technical and administrative procedures to open five shopping centers in Baghdad soon, three of which will be shopping centers, in addition to two central markets that will operate with the same (hypermarket) system.
