    Baghdad Today - Kirkuk
Former MP and Turkmen leader Fawzi Akram Tarzi, today, Friday (September 6, 2024), defined the position of the Third Nationalism on the local government in Kirkuk Governorate.
In an interview with Baghdad Today, Tarzi said, "All Turkmen forces believe in law, order and the constitution, not political custom, and will not participate in the Kirkuk government until a decision is issued by the Federal Court to resolve the appeals submitted regarding the formation of the local government."
He added, "The decision is clear and comes within the vision of the political forces that represent the third nationality in the country - referring to the Turkmen - regarding the importance of proceeding with constitutional and legal solutions through the Federal Court, considering that its decisions are binding on all parties."
Tarzi pointed out that, "The Kirkuk government cannot succeed without the participation of the Turkmen, and all forces must learn the lessons of the past that excluding and marginalizing the third nationality is a grave mistake, and the time has come to address this through fairness via constitutional tools, so that they have real representation in the institutions of the Iraqi state."
On Tuesday (August 13, 2024), the United Iraqi Turkmen Front list announced its categorical rejection of the session to form the Kirkuk local government, considering what happened as "a threat to community security and a destruction of trust between the components."
The list said in a statement received by "Baghdad Today", "We, the Turkmen masses in Kirkuk province, declare our absolute rejection of the formation of the Kirkuk local government due to the absence of the authentic Turkmen component, and we consider this step to be a consecration of unilateral decisions that threaten community security and civil peace in Kirkuk, and that the Kirkuk problem will not be solved by distributing positions, and Kirkuk needs to strengthen trust between the components, and what happened is the destruction of trust."
She added, "We also reiterate that the Kirkuk Vision initiative is a real guarantee for resolving the Kirkuk issue in all its political and social dimensions, and that the Turkmen are a fundamental element in Kirkuk, and no one can bypass this component, and that the session held in Baghdad violated Article 13 of the electoral law, which stipulated the fair distribution of positions among the components of the province."
The list stressed that it "will continue its political struggle to achieve the aspirations of the Turkmen people, and that the Turkmen issue in Kirkuk is a national issue that represents a historical extension, and the Turkmen cannot be marginalized under any circumstances."
