    Baghdad/Al-Mada
A number of members of the US Congress sent a letter to the US President expressing their concern about the upcoming visit of Iraqi Oil Minister Hayan Abdul Ghani, saying that Iraqi officials are selling Iranian oil in the name of Iraqi oil.

Five members of the US Congress, all members of the US House of Representatives, sent a letter to Biden, asking him not to allow the Iraqi oil minister to visit him until the allegations against him are investigated.

On August 31, the Iraqi oil minister told Iraqi state media that he would visit the United States and meet with American companies to invest in 10 Iraqi oil fields.

Five members of Congress, in a letter to the Biden administration, point to the involvement of Iraqi Oil Minister Hayan Abdul Ghani and other officials in mixing and selling Iranian oil with Iraqi oil, and demand an investigation into the matter.

Members of Congress expressed concern over reports that “the Iraqi oil sector has become a means of financing factions close to Iran and the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.”

The five members of the House of Representatives cited a report issued by the Washington Institute for Middle East Policy, which stated that “Iraqi armed factions close to Iran and the Revolutionary Guards are earning $1 billion annually in this way.”

The members of Congress said in their letter that Iranian oil is being mixed with Iraqi oil and is being smuggled by factions close to Iran, suggesting that “officials from the Iraqi Prime Minister’s Office, the Iraqi Ministry of Oil, the Iraqi Oil Marketing Company (SOMO), and the Ministry of Transportation are aware of this.”

The US Congress members pointed out in their letter to Biden that all of this is happening at a time when "the Iraqi-Turkish oil pipeline remains closed and the Iraqi Ministry of Oil refuses to open the pipeline, which has a direct impact on the Kurdistan Region's oil exports."

In the letter, the members of Congress called on Biden to review the accusations against Iraqi officials.
