Electricity to {Sabah}: Adopting the combined cycle in all stations

The Ministry of Electricity revealed a trend towards adopting combined cycle projects in all gas stations to increase the reliability of the electricity grid, which ensures energy production without relying on fuel, while it announced the resumption of the operation of the (Akkaz) station with national gas.
The official spokesman for the ministry, Ahmed Moussa, told Al-Sabah: The combined cycle is one of the most important projects adopted by the Ministry of Electricity in regulating the work of generating power stations, as it will be installed in all gas stations in all governorates, because it operates without fuel, meaning it does not need gas or other types of fuel.

He explained that the Ministry laid the foundation stone for the South Baghdad Gas Station No. (1), and launched the executive works and combined cycle projects with a capacity of 125 megawatts, increasing the production capacity by about 375 megawatts.
Musa added that the ministry also launched the implementation works for two generating units with a design capacity of 362 megawatts in the Mansouriya station in Diyala, with an increase in production capacity of about 1080 megawatts. The implementation works also began to install a generating unit (combined cycle) in the (Akkaz) station in Anbar, after it was one of the stations that stopped due to the need for fuel, as it was operated for the first time by relying on national gas from the (Akkaz) station as a first stage, to launch the second stage of operation by relying on installing the combined cycle at a rate of 125 megawatts, with an increase in the station’s production capacity to reach 375 megawatts.
Musa said that these projects are the most effective in providing clean energy that does not depend on fuel, and they are also the most economical when operating. Estimates indicate that the signs of installing combined cycles will appear clearly in the national electricity system after about two to three years from now, and it is expected that the system will be supplied with new generating capacities of up to about four thousand megawatts.
It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Electricity had previously laid the foundation stone for the installation of combined cycles for the Karbala, Anbar and Najaf gas-fired power plants.
