    Economy News _ Baghdad
Today, Wednesday, the Minister of Electricity, Ziad Ali Fadel, announced the signing of contracts for combined cycle projects with a capacity of 4,000 megawatts, indicating that these contracts will provide more than 4 billion dollars annually, while indicating that smart systems will be launched in 10 residential and commercial areas.
Fadel said in an interview with the Iraqi News Agency, followed by “Al-Eqtisad News,” that “the important projects that have been on hold since 2017 are combined cycle projects, but during this year we signed contracts with a capacity of approximately (1,250 megawatts) as a first phase, and we are now in the process of signing contracts for the second phase.” It is approximately (2500 megawatts) until the additional energy that was signed during the year 2023 becomes approximately (4000 megawatts).”
He added, "This energy will be added to the electrical network without any fuel, using the heat emitted from the simple units," pointing out that "it will contribute to saving more than 4 billion dollars annually, which will be returned to the treasury, which includes the costs of purchasing gas to operate only (4,000 megawatts)."
The minister stated that “the Ministry worked to propose an integrated project to switch to smart systems to supplement the budget, which will reduce the value of the budget allocated to the Ministry of Electricity,” pointing out that “this plan and study was approved in the Ministerial Council for Energy, and now it is in the process of being approved by the Council of Ministers, until it is launched.” In ten residential and commercial areas, with up to 500,000 subscribers throughout Iraq, their systems will be transformed into smart systems, and invoices will be issued by electronic payment.”
