    Baghdad Today - Diyala
The Security Committee of Diyala Provincial Council said, today, Thursday (September 12, 2024), that the three-axis strategy reduced smuggling by 80% within 16 months in the province.
Committee member Aws Ibrahim explained in an interview with Baghdad Today, "Smuggling was a complex problem in the Diyala security scene and it is a crime with direct economic and security consequences, especially since smuggled materials are prohibited."
He added, "The security services have actually adopted a 3-pronged strategy during the past 16 months, which consists of controlling the land routes, strengthening the role of checkpoints, and ending the "Al-Naseemiya" file, referring to the agricultural roads that are used to pass smuggled goods and materials between regions."
Ibrahim pointed out that "smuggling has decreased by more than 80%, which is a very positive thing that will enhance the security dimension in Diyala and ensure that smuggled materials, including medicines and other goods, do not flow in."
A security source announced, on Wednesday (March 6, 2024), that 13 areas were no longer suspected of smuggling oil and its derivatives between two governorates.
The source said in an interview with "Baghdad Today", "The agricultural areas adjacent to the administrative borders separating Diyala and Baghdad have witnessed, in the past eight months, an increase in raids, combing and tracking operations to search for whales smuggling oil and its derivatives, in light of the presence of secret dens for storage before transporting it towards the Kurdistan Region via tankers."
The source added, "The combing and tracking operations of the targets, which included 13 suspected areas, have been completed, and all targets have been cleared of any suspicions regarding the existence of secret dens for smuggling petroleum products in general." He pointed out that "the efforts to combat smuggling through Diyala have decreased by 90%, with the seizure of 7 of the most important networks in recent months."
He pointed out that "the existence of joint coordination between Baqubah and Baghdad regarding the issue of smuggling oil products contributed to cutting off the road to dangerous mafias that were behind many fuel crises in the past years."
