There are growing concerns about the impact of the escalating war in the region on the stability of global markets, which has led to fluctuations in oil and commodity prices, and their repercussions on the Iraqi economy.
On Thursday, the Hezbollah Brigades in Iraq renewed their warnings of an energy war in the region, but to a greater extent that may affect Bab al-Mandab and the Strait of Hormuz.
It is noteworthy that the factions participating in the targeting operations inside the Israeli depth are: “Al-Nujaba, Kata’ib Hezbollah, and Sayyid al-Shuhada,” while the Asa’ib movement was satisfied with support and affirming its position in support of Palestine and Lebanon, amid press talks about readiness to fight, without announcing its participation in carrying out any operation.
The security official of the brigades, Abu Ali al-Askari, said in a tweet seen by “Al-Alam Al-Jadeed” that “we reiterate that any targeting of our country, Iraq, or the use of its land and air to target the Islamic Republic, the response of the Hezbollah Brigades will not be limited to the entity, but will strike at America’s bases, camps, and interests in Iraq and the region.”
He added, "In principle, we do not start an energy war, but if it starts, the world will lose 12 million barrels of oil per day, and this is what we will take care of with God's help. As for what the Yemeni brothers will do in Bab al-Mandab, and the Iranian brothers in the Strait of Hormuz, God knows best."
He pointed out that “this war distinguished the evil from the good, and clearly revealed who are the soldiers of Satan and who are the soldiers of the Most Merciful. We have named evil regimes, as the Secretary-General defined them in his last statement: the Sisi regime, the Jordanian regime, the Saudi entity with its Wahhabi institutions, and the Emirati regime. We add to this evil list what is called (the Shiites of London and the Iraqi and Arab liberals).”
On October 7, media outlets quoted a senior official in Al-Sudani’s office as saying that the Iraqi government “is moving at a high speed to avoid the repercussions of war and to distance the country from its dangerous consequences,” noting that these efforts include talking to Iraq’s influential Western allies, primarily the United States and Britain, with the aim of convincing them of Iraq’s position that is far from war, and subsequently for them to pressure Israel if it thinks of targeting Iraq.
On October 6, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani warned in a letter to US President Joe Biden and the European Union countries against dragging the region and the world into ongoing wars that would shake the global economy.
On October 3, the Hezbollah Brigades in Iraq warned that the world would lose 12 million barrels of oil per day if an “energy war” began in the region.
For months, Iraqi factions have been launching missile and drone attacks on Israel in support of the Palestinian resistance in the Gaza Strip, but the escalation began to intensify since the Lebanese Hezbollah entered into the exchange of fire with Israel until the escalation reached its peak with the assassination of the Secretary-General of the Lebanese party, Hassan Nasrallah, following an Israeli raid in the southern suburbs of Beirut at the beginning of this month.
On October 1, Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper quoted informed sources as saying that Tel Aviv had identified 35 targets inside Iraq that could be struck at any moment, including targeting prominent political leaders and faction leaders, similar to what happened in Lebanon. At the same time, it indicated that Prime Minister Mohammed al-Sudani had asked prominent Shiite figures to mediate to rein in the factions and prevent Iraq from being dragged into the war between Lebanon and Israel.
