Iraqi Foreign Ministry: Corruption, Diplomatic Dispersion, and Embassies Without a Community
• Today 12:36

Information/Report..
For some time now, there have been several criticisms at all levels regarding the administrative and diplomatic flabbiness of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, due to the continued exclusion of the Ministry from the appointment controls, in addition to the spread of its representatives and missions outside the country in countries that do not have any diplomatic representation in Baghdad, and with which Iraq has no political or economic relations, as well as the absence of many of them from the Iraqi community, and in some countries the number of diplomatic mission employees is almost greater than the number of Iraqis present in them.
Some believe that increasing the number of Iraqi diplomatic missions and embassies in countries that do not have relations with Iraq falls within the framework of political settlements of the blocs and parties that participate in forming federal governments based on the quota system for the components in the country, and they also consider it another door to the corruption rampant in the joints of the state.
Member of the Foreign Relations Committee in Parliament, MP Amer Al-Fayez, confirmed in a statement to / Al-Maalouma / Agency, that "his committee approached the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to reconsider the presence of large and useless numbers of diplomatic missions abroad, as they cost the ministry's budget huge sums," stressing that "the committee prepared a list of missions that do not have representation in Baghdad, in addition to Iraqi missions in countries where there is no large Iraqi community or very small numbers."
MP Haider Al-Salami revealed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been contacted to conduct an inventory of diplomatic missions and embassies affiliated with it in countries around the world, with the aim of closing those that do not have a small percentage of the Iraqi community.
Al-Salami told Al-Maalouma, "The Foreign Relations Committee sent an official letter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs requesting information including the number of diplomatic missions, the number of employees within the mission, and the number of the Iraqi community in the countries in which they are present. We are awaiting the answer."
He added that "the purpose of requesting information is to take appropriate measures in the event that there is a diplomatic mission in a country where there is no Iraqi community and there is no need for that mission," noting that the number of Iraqi embassies in countries around the world is approximately 85 embassies and diplomatic missions.
Parliamentary bodies confirmed the existence of an increase in the number of diplomatic employees at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, calling for setting controls for the training courses for foreign employees from the administrative to the diplomatic corps. End / 25m
