Al-Sudani reviews the commission's preparations for the regional elections

Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani stressed the need for the Electoral Commission to exert maximum efforts to ensure the success of the electoral process in the region, while directing the suspension of the tax increase related to the transfer of ownership of real estate of all types.
A statement from the Prime Minister's Office, received by "Al-Sabah", stated that "Al-Sudani received yesterday, Saturday, the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Independent High Electoral Commission, Omar Ahmed Mohammed, and members of its board. The meeting witnessed a discussion of the ongoing preparations of the Commission and its preparations for holding the elections of the Kurdistan Regional Parliament of Iraq (the sixth session), on October 20, and completing all the necessary procedures to hold this important democratic practice."
The Prime Minister stressed, according to the statement, "the government's support for the efforts of the Election Commission, and securing all requirements for the electoral process," stressing the need for "the Commission and its employees to exert maximum efforts with the countdown to holding the elections, and to adopt neutrality and transparency and achieve electoral justice in a way that ensures the preservation of voters' votes, in free and fair elections that achieve the aspirations of the region's citizens."
In addition, Al-Sudani directed to stop the tax increase related to the transfer of ownership of real estate of all types.
Another statement from the Prime Minister's Office, received by "Al-Sabah", stated that "Al-Sudani directed the suspension of the tax increase related to the transfer of ownership of real estate of various types, which was issued by the Director General of the General Tax Authority, and he circulated it to the Authority's branches in the governorates, in an individual procedure on his part, contrary to the vision that came out of the Supreme Committee for Tax Reform, as well as contrary to Cabinet Resolution No. (24074 of 2024)."
The statement pointed out that "the Ministry of Finance has formed, based on the Prime Minister's directive, an investigative committee against those involved in issuing the tax increase decision, and it is now carrying out its work to determine the reasons for this violation, which is not based on the law, and has caused a clear state of confusion among citizens."
The Prime Minister stressed that the tax file is of great importance to the government, as it is linked to the file of economic reform and maximizing the state's non-oil resources, which places everyone before the necessity of dealing with this file according to the comprehensive vision on the basis of which the Supreme Committee for Tax Reform was launched, and in a way that achieves the public benefit and is not a burden on citizens.
