Between Netanyahu’s “crazy” plans and Iran’s nuclear program, Washington complains to Baghdad about Tel Aviv’s behavior

An informed source revealed, today, Saturday (October 12, 2024), a leak of a meeting between an American delegation and a veteran Iraqi politician that took place recently in Baghdad.
The source said, "The American delegation made it clear through its talk that the White House administration is very concerned about the recklessness of the Israeli Prime Minister if he decides to launch a strike on Iranian nuclear stations, which could lead to serious repercussions, including radioactive contamination that could spread to large areas near the Arabian Gulf, in addition to the fact that it could push Tehran to make a fundamental change in its nuclear doctrine."
He added, "Striking the nuclear stations is perhaps the most important point that Washington and its allies in the region, including the Gulf, agreed upon, as it could lead the Middle East to a very complex phase that opens the doors to a nuclear stations war, because Iran will certainly respond to the Israeli Negev Desert reactor."
The source pointed out that “the Iraqi politician criticized America’s choices in supporting Tel Aviv despite the great genocide in Palestine and Lebanon, and even announcing attempts at calm while pumping money and weapons,” considering what is happening “shows the world that it does not want stability and its interests will be in danger if the war continues in Lebanon and Palestine.”
Confusing calculations
Since the night of the Iranian missiles, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, along with the security and military cabinet, have been busy with confusing calculations in their successive meetings to study the nature, limits and quality of the response. Most analyses following these deliberations say that it will be “firm and strong,” amid American efforts to push for it to be “balanced and limited.”
old account settlement
Some estimates indicate that Netanyahu may go far in his response to Iran, including settling the old score with the Iranian nuclear program, by directly bombing the nuclear facilities, but without that there are caveats, including American rejection, uncalculated risks, and unexpected surprises.
While other estimates suggest that the “safest” and symmetrical response might be to strike military bases and installations in order to remove fears of another Iranian response, or to target strategic facilities and installations represented by the oil and gas industries and ports in order to destroy the country’s economy, and to stir up internal unrest, in addition to carrying out cyber attacks, targeted assassinations, and targeting centers of sovereignty.
Whatever the case, it will require a counter-response from Tehran, based on the statements and threats of Iranian leaders and officials.
