US Ambassador to Iraq Alina Romanowski called on parties in Kurdistan to support the peaceful transfer of power and the formation of the new government without any delay.
Romanowski said in a statement that “the United States of America congratulates the citizens of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and all political forces on the successful completion of the regional parliament elections,” indicating that “employees of the US mission in Iraq monitored the electoral process in various polling stations in the region during October 18 and 20.”
She added that "her country commends the citizens of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq for their commitment to democracy," noting that "the Independent High Electoral Commission acknowledged that it faced difficulties in the fingerprint verification process during the electoral process, and that this issue must be addressed before the Iraqi parliamentary elections in 2025."
Romanowski urged “political parties and civil society to support a peaceful transfer of power and the formation of a government without delay,” calling on all political parties and security forces to “respect the vital role of the media and civil society in the democratic process.”
She explained that “forming a new government will allow the Kurdistan Region to strengthen its democratic institutions, advance human rights, support economic development, and enhance the region’s work as part of a secure, stable, and sovereign Iraq.”
