A team from the Service Activities Monitoring Division at the Baghdad Environment Directorate conducted an environmental inspection of a number of irregular waste transfer stations in Kadhimiya, Adhamiya and Al-Shaala.
Director of the Environmental Protection and Improvement Department in the Central Region, Sinan Jaafar, said in a press statement: A number of environmental violations were recorded at these stations, most notably the lack of requirements or obtaining environmental approvals, in addition to the remaining quantities of waste at the site until the next day, stressing that the Ministry of Environment will take legal measures against violators to limit these violations.
For his part, Director of the Baghdad Environment, Sadiq Hatem Abboud, pointed out that the environmental inspection did not show any activity by scavengers (vandals) or random burning cases, which is a positive development, but he stressed that the continuation of irregular work at these stations poses a serious environmental threat.
