(Baghdad: al-Furat News) The Independent Electoral Commission announced a lawsuit against a former deputy and candidate for the House of Representatives elections in 2018.
The Director of Information in the Electoral Commission for Elections Aziz al-Kikhani said in a press statement received by the agency {Euphrates News} copy of Al-Wim that "the Commission began to file a lawsuit against former MP Shatha Abusi and candidate for the House of Representatives in 2018 and Waddah Sadiq."
"The Commission has assigned the legal department to bring the lawsuit to the judiciary after the leaks of audio recording, which appeared in the media fraud and fraud and attempts to manipulate and buy votes, which failed, indicating the integrity of the procedures of the Commission."
He called on the Iraqi judiciary to "expedite the adoption of all legal procedures and to ensure evidence for the purpose of taking measures to ensure the right of the defaulters and those who attempt to harm this institution and the electoral process that produced the Council of Representatives and the executive branch."
"The responsibility to protect this constitutional institution is the responsibility of all and it will exert great efforts in punishing and holding accountable those who harm the achievement of the electoral process and democracy in Iraq."
