    Baghdad Today - Erbil
The head of the General Authority of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Fahmi Burhan, called today, Sunday (November 10, 2024), to postpone the population census in the disputed areas until Article 140 of the Constitution is implemented.
Burhan said, in a press conference held in Sulaymaniyah, which was followed by "Baghdad Today", that "there is a risk of conducting a population census unless Article 140 is implemented, and many Arabs have been brought to Kirkuk and new neighborhoods have been built."
He added that "about 80 percent of Iraqis hold national ID cards," indicating that "we are not against the population census and we believe that it will achieve some aspirations and goals, but because the issue of Article 140 has not been resolved, we demand that it be postponed until Article 140 is implemented at least."
He explained that "we fear that we will be exploited for political purposes, and since the Kurdish regions are not satisfied with this condolence," noting that "more than 200 thousand families left Kirkuk and 62 thousand Yazidi families left Sinjar, so there must be principles for a census in these regions."
He called on the displaced to "return to their areas on the census days to be registered there, and since the Kurdistan Regional Government will facilitate this for them."
