Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani renewed the call to stop the barbaric war committed by the Zionist murder gangs against our people in Palestine and Lebanon. This came in a speech he delivered during the opening of the Iraq International Quran Memorization and Recitation Competition, which was held under the slogan (From Baghdad, the civilization and Islam, to Gaza, the resistance and Lebanon, the jihad, with the Holy Quran, victory and steadfastness), with the participation of 62 memorization and recitation contestants, representing 31 Arab and Islamic countries.
At the beginning of his speech, Al-Sudani welcomed the participants in this international competition hosted by the capital, Baghdad, and referred to the pioneering role of Iraq in serving the Holy Quran and spreading its value system, which has strengthened the instillation of the values of tolerance, peace and love, without religious, sectarian or denominational sensitivity, and during which Iraqis were able to overcome all challenges, stressing the need to follow the guidance of the Quran in spreading love and preserving the unity of the country.
The Prime Minister stressed that the government has provided all support and care to Quran memorizers and reciters, and has directed the opening of a special channel for them to be accepted into universities, and has supervised the care and support of Quranic centers, and encouraged schools, institutes and universities to hold Quranic forums, and urged the youth to memorize and care for it, and directed that this competition be an annual tradition.
In his speech, Al-Sudani referred to the crimes of genocide being committed in the region against our people in Palestine and Lebanon, amidst complete international silence, renewing the call to stop the barbaric war being committed by Zionist killing gangs.
It is noteworthy that the competition, whose preparations were supervised by the Shiite and Sunni Endowments and will last for six days, includes an elite group of international and local judges with expertise in the field of Quranic sciences, and arbitration in Quranic readings, recitations and competitions.
• An eternal message from the Holy Quran
For his part, Sheikh Ahmed Issa Al-Masrawi, the Sheikh of the World Reciters, said: The Holy Quran is the eternal message from heaven, which was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad, may God bless him and his family and grant them peace, to be a miracle for humanity until the Day of Judgment. He praised Iraq’s civilizational role in spreading the Quran and developing its sciences, appreciating the great initiative launched by the Sudanese Prime Minister to organize this competition, which is a turning point in the path of interest in the Holy Quran in Iraq.
In a related context, the head of the preparatory committee for the competition, Dr. Ali Razouki Al-Lami, indicated that this competition represents an unprecedented event in the history of Iraq, pointing out that the Iraqis’ communication with the Holy Quran is their source of strength in facing challenges, and a major tool for strengthening the unity of the Islamic nation. He explained that this event comes at a crucial time to restore Iraq to its leading position in the field of Quranic sciences.
• The competition’s impact on society
Speaking about the importance of the competition, the festival’s media advisor, Talib Ahmed, said: Every Quranic gathering contributes to spreading Quranic awareness among members of society, and confirms the role of the Holy Quran as a value system that establishes the foundations of peace and tolerance. He added that the competition is an important step in returning Iraq to the position of Quranic leadership, especially after the Ottoman Empire had adopted the Baghdadi reading as the official reading for all its colonies.
Ahmed pointed out that the competition awards include three prizes for each of memorization and recitation, in addition to valuable cash prizes amounting to three million dinars for each winner, in addition to a certificate of participation and a luxurious copy of the Holy Quran. These prizes aim to motivate the contestants to be more creative and excel in reciting and memorizing the Quran.
• Judging criteria
As for the judging criteria, Dr. Muhammad Muhannad Al-Kharouf, a member of the judging committee, confirmed that the competition relies on strict technical criteria to evaluate the performance of the participants, such as clarity of pronunciation, accuracy of recitation, and good vocal performance. He added that the judging also includes evaluating the spiritual presence of the reciter and his influence on the listeners, which is considered one of the basic features of distinguished Quranic recitation.
• Participants’ interaction and the effective role of the competition
Participants in the competition expressed their appreciation for this great initiative. Mauritanian reciter Ahmed Al-Aref confirmed that the competition contributes to enhancing a deep understanding of the Holy Quran, pointing out that Iraq is a fundamental station on the path of Quranic culture. Sudanese reciter Anas Muhammadin also pointed out the importance of the competition in spreading the culture of the Quran, stressing that the Holy Quran is a divine message that is suitable for all times and places.
In another comment, Moroccan reciter Elias Al-Mahyawi said: The Holy Quran is the constitution of humanity, and it is the book that can organize the lives of all people. He added that the competition represents an opportunity to promote the human and faith values that the Holy Quran calls for.
• Unifying efforts for the sake of the Quran
On the other hand, Iraqi Imam and preacher Jassim Mohammed Abdullah expressed his happiness with this competition, which is an opportunity to advance Quranic culture in Iraq and the Islamic world. He stressed that the Holy Quran is the source of unification for the Islamic nation and urges the rejection of sedition and differences among Muslims. He stated that this competition represents a true call to work to serve the Holy Quran and spread it among people.
