Iraq and Kuwait agreed on Wednesday to form four main committees to develop relations between the two countries and overcome the obstacles they face as well as prepare a comprehensive plan for the rehabilitation and construction of the port of Safwan - Abdali through the preparation of new designs taking into account the possibility of increasing the size of Trade exchange between the two countries.
"We meet with our Kuwaiti brothers in the province of Basra, which has depth with Kuwait, and we have many common links," Commerce Minister Mohammad Hashim al-Ani told a news conference with his Kuwaiti counterpart in the province of Basra.

"
Al-Ani pointed out that "the common desire to lead the two countries will contribute to addressing many of the problems and obstacles to the development of relations."
He added that "Iraq and Kuwait agree on a high level and our view is clear in many areas, especially in Arab and international forums, and we had meetings with the Kuwaiti side and signed a joint agreement last February."
He pointed out that "an agreement to hold the first session of the Iraqi Kuwaiti Committee on the fifth of next September, to identify the obstacles and the launch of relations to advanced levels in all areas."
The Minister of Trade: "As for the subject of free trade agreement and the establishment of a free zone between the two countries were presented to other ministries for the purpose of the statement of views."

For his part, Basra Governor As'ad al-Eidani stressed on the importance of talks with the Kuwaiti side to develop the port of Safwan al-Abdali on the one hand and to increase the volume of trade exchange between the two countries and the contribution of Basra to a greater share being the province adjacent to Kuwait, which could be the main partner in any development of relations. .
