Minister of Health Saleh Al-Hasnawi announced today, Sunday, that half of those registered in health insurance belong to the social care category, while he indicated that the services provided under health insurance are almost free.
Al-Hasnawi said in a statement that “the health insurance program is making steady progress towards achieving its goals,” noting that “the number of people registered in the program has reached about one million people.”
He added, "Half of those covered belong to the social welfare category, as they receive health services almost free of charge or for very nominal fees, whether in the public or private sectors."
He explained that “employees also benefit from this program,” noting that “the support provided for some services ranges between 75 and 90 percent.”
He stressed the “importance of raising community awareness of the importance of this programme to ensure maximum benefit from it”, calling on “the media to play a vital role in spreading awareness among citizens”.
