The General Post and Savings Company of the Ministry of Communications revealed, on Wednesday, violations in the work of post companies, indicating that more than a thousand companies operate outside the state’s umbrella.
The general manager of the company, Safwan Jassim, said in an interview with the Iraqi News Agency, which was followed by "Al-Eqtisad News", that "there are more than a thousand companies operating outside the umbrella of the state, as lawsuits have been filed against some companies," noting that "the licensed companies are about six to seven." Only companies, including international companies such as a company (Shopini), which is an internal transport and delivery company.
He added, "The nature of work is to deliver all goods inside and outside Iraq through electronic shopping," noting that "companies that operate outside the state’s umbrella if their work is legal and subject to government control, then they will be a major economic source for the state."
Jassim explained, "The revenues cannot be estimated, but the number of shipments reaches 100 thousand shipments per month, and a single shipment has a cost of six thousand dinars," noting that "there is a plan to maximize the resources of the Postal Police by organizing the market and making all companies operate." Under the umbrella of the state, in addition to transportation, it will be exclusively via Iraqi mail.
He pointed out, "his company has started legal steps against companies that operate outside the state’s umbrella, and has begun to close a number of them," affirming that "there are arrest and closure orders against these companies."
And he continued, "About 50 companies have been closed in Baghdad, and that the judiciary is cooperating with the Iraqi post because it is protected by law."
