    On Thursday, the Ministry of Oil announced that the month of September 2022 will be set as the date for entering the Karbala Refinery with a capacity of 140 thousand barrels per day, which will provide derivatives with high-quality international specifications, confirming that the current year will witness the introduction of a number of ismara units and the addition of a unit in the Shuaiba refinery with a capacity of 70 thousand barrels Daily.
     
    The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil, Hamid Al-Zobaie, said in a statement, “The Karbala refinery is one of the very important projects for the country, and the work in it is closely followed up by the ministry, as the completion rate in it exceeded 90%, and it is hoped that the trial operation will take place in the first quarter of the year. 2022, until September of the same year, which will witness the completion of the operation of all units.
     
    "The refinery, which will have a refining capacity of 140 thousand barrels per day, will produce high-quality oil products and will effectively contribute to meeting the country's consumer need within the percentage of its production of the required light products such as gasoline and gas oil, which Iraq needs," he added. The work is progressing in the refinery quickly and will be completed on time, and despite the delay due to the Corona pandemic and the ban that accompanied it, but workers have made great efforts so that the pandemic does not affect the work in the refinery.
     
    The Undersecretary for Liquidation Affairs emphasized "the necessity of setting a timetable for the training and qualification program for the national effort, which will manage the production and technical units by taking advantage of the experience of international companies, whether advisory or operating the project," stressing "the importance of this in raising the technical level of workers in the liquidation sector."
     
    He stressed that "the ministry's plan is to raise refining capacities by establishing new refineries and developing existing ones, and includes raising production capacities and upgrading the quality of products, and work goes on within the plan by adding isomerization units and FCC units to improve the quality of light products in the refineries", indicating that "The current year will witness the operation of Azmara units in the refineries (North, Dora and Shuaiba), as well as the operation of the fourth unit in the Shuaiba refinery to add refining capacity of up to 70 thousand barrels per day."
     
    Al-Zobaie revealed "working on offering offers for the rehabilitation of the North Refinery with a capacity of 140 thousand barrels," noting that "the engineering effort is working intensively to offer the refinery to international companies to rehabilitate it, and at the same time to improve the quality of products, especially since the refinery was built in the eighties of the last century." Work is underway on rehabilitation and engineering designs to upgrade these units to produce high-quality products.
     
    It is noteworthy that the Karbala refinery includes (35) operational and service units, including four units for the production of gasoline, and includes a unit of thermal cracking with auxiliary factor (FCC) and a unit of "poly naphtha" and the number of octane (95) and (90) in addition to the implementation of the construction of (44) tanks.
