On Sunday, the deputy from Diwaniyah Governorate, Abbas Shuail Odeh, called on the government to reconsider the exchange rate of the dollar, or to support the ration card in a way that would spare the citizen from buying from local markets.
[size=15]Odeh said in a statement to NRT Arabia, (March 21, 2021), that "Diwaniyah suffers from poverty, and according to the Ministry of Planning, it is one of the governorates that is below the poverty line and we support it in the budget, as its entitlement differs from the rest of the provinces according to the budget allocations. 4 trillion allocations for reconstruction and development projects, whose share will be more than 200 billion. "[/size]
[size=15]He added, "There are other projects from external borrowing such as water and sewage projects and the Silo construction project in the governorate, and if the budget is not passed according to the planned financial allocations, there will be projects that qualify a large part of the service and infrastructure projects from Diwaniyah Governorate."[/size]
[size=15]Odeh added, with regard to the recent demonstrations, "Our position is with our people in the governorate because of what they suffer from problems, especially on the service side and the unemployment issue, because we have many young people suffering from unemployment."[/size]
[size=15]He explained that "the reason for the high price of foodstuffs is the increase in the exchange rate of the dollar, so we ask the government to either return the exchange rate or support the ration card in a way that the citizen will not be able to buy from local markets."[/size]
[size=15]As for the allocations of farmers, Odeh pointed out that "the province of Diwaniyah is one of the agricultural governorates, and we called on the government to pay the dues directly in support of the farmers."[/size]
