Shafaq News/ The Iraqi Ministry of Planning revealed today, Sunday, that the residents of Kurdistan Region constitute 14% of the country's population.
This came according to an official answer by the Federal Ministry of Planning to an inquiry by a member of the Finance Committee in the Iraqi Parliament, Nermin Maarouf, regarding the estimated number of residents of the Kurdistan Region.
In a statement received by Shafaq News Agency, Representative Nermin Maarouf said that in continuation of the follow-up to the rights and entitlements of the Kurdistan Region within the framework of federal Iraq, we sent an inquiry to the Federal Ministry of Planning regarding the estimated number of residents of the Kurdistan Region and their ratio to the total population of Iraq, according to which annually becomes the basis for which Accordingly, the region's financial share and entitlements are determined in the Iraqi general budget law.
She added that the ministry replied in an official letter that the estimated number of the region's population is (5884023), and they constitute 14% of the total population of Iraq.
The deputy explained that the Finance Book indicated that the estimated population of Erbil Governorate is 2,055,448 people, constituting 4.9%, while the number in Sulaymaniyah Governorate is 2,396,206 people, constituting 5.7% of the population, and Duhok Governorate, its estimated population is 1,432,369, constituting 3.7 %, indicating that the total estimated total of the population of the region is (5884023) and they constitute 14% of the total population of Iraq.
The statement stressed that this comes at a time when the proportion of the region's population is calculated within the general Iraqi budget during recent years, amounting to 12.6% of the total population of Iraq, and the region's share of rights and entitlements is calculated according to this proportion.
