    Today, Tuesday, the Ministry of Environment announced its adoption of a project for palm cultivation to reduce global warming, while indicating that it will adopt modern methods of cultivation.
    The Director General of the Technical Department in the ministry, Issa Al-Fayyad, said, "Iraq has two successful projects for dates of good varieties. The first is the Hussainiya Shrine project (Fadak farm), which includes 30,000 palm trees on an area of ​​1,000 acres. Diyala. 
    He added, "The usual way to grow date palms is to plant the seedling in the ground after it reaches a weight of 15 kilograms, and it takes two years to reach this weight, as it is cut from the mother and turned into the ground, after which the seedling needs to grow and start producing dates between 4 to 5 years." Pointing out that "the ministry will adopt a different method of palm cultivation of high quality and will work to develop it."
    And he continued, "The new method that we will follow is that the palm offshoots, which weigh between 3 to 5 kilograms, we will work to separate them from the mother and plant them in the ground until they begin to take root. As for the cut part, it will be placed in (anvils), so the ministry wants to adopt the last method to collect the offshoots and plant them." in the provinces.
    He pointed out that "the Ministry of Environment needs the state's support for palm cultivation in fragile lands that have been subjected to migration by its inhabitants, as well as cultivation in the marshes," explaining that "the most important means necessary for the success of agriculture in Iraq is raising the level of awareness among farmers on how to modern watering and the use of fertilizers, This requires free guides throughout Iraq."
    And he indicated that "palm forests have an important role in reducing global warming, as palm cultivation will serve Iraq in accordance with the Paris Agreement," stressing that "work will begin to implement palm cultivation using modern methods soon."
    He pointed out that "the aforementioned method of (anvils) has been tried in the farms of Diyala, where we have 5 thousand palm trees, and thus we will preserve dates and how to market and process them," explaining that "the ministry will start discussing the palm cultivation project with the provinces and international organizations, in order to look forward to Experience, knowledge of the financial costs, in addition to obtaining international support to start the project.
    And he indicated that "the Hussainiya shrine project has reached a financial cost of 15 billion dinars to plant 30,000 palm trees, so we must give an accurate number for the project and its marketing."
