The Director General of the Technical Department at the Ministry of Oil, Ali Ward Hammoud, suggested starting the associated gas production operations in the Halfaya field by the middle of next year, stressing that Iraq is currently one of the countries that export liquid gas.
Ward told "Al-Iqtisad News" agency, "The management of gas investment operations in Iraq is managed by major companies in the Ministry of Oil, namely the South Gas Company, the North Gas Company and the Basra Gas Company," noting that "Iraq plans to dispense with importing gas to meet the need for electricity production through investment." All gas fields, including the Akkas and Mansouriya fields.
He added, "The third or fourth quarter of 2023 will be the beginning of gas production from the Halfaya field with a capacity of 300 cubic meters," noting that "the fields of Nasiriyah are being invested in to produce 200 cubic meters by the giant GE company."
He explained, "Iraq's current production is estimated at 2,800 cubic meters of associated gas, and these quantities are not sufficient to feed the electric power production stations, which are estimated at 35,000 megawatts," noting that "Iraq is working to import gas from Qatar and Turkmenistan in addition to Iran to meet the local need." .
He pointed out that "Iraq is currently conducting operations to export liquid gas to Europe, and this is an important project that is managed by the Basra and South Gas Companies."
