    The President of the United Arab Emirates, Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, receives today, Friday (May 24, 2024), the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, in the capital, Abu Dhabi.[/size]
    [size=45]The Presidency of the Kurdistan Region stated in a statement that the two presidents will discuss “the basis and opportunities for developing and further strengthening the UAE’s relations with Iraq and with the Kurdistan Region in particular in all fields.”[/size]
    [size=45]They will also exchange views on “the latest developments in the region and a number of issues of common interest.”[/size]
    [size=45]The UAE is the third trading partner of the Kurdistan Region after Turkey and Iran, and the volume of trade exchange between the two sides last year amounted to more than half a billion dollars, according to the UAE consul in Erbil.[/size]
    [size=45]The spokesman for the Kurdistan Region Presidency, Dilshad Shihab, confirmed earlier that “strong relations combine the Kurdistan Region and the Emirates... and the visit of the President of the Kurdistan Region aims to strengthen them.”[/size]
    [size=45]The interest that the UAE attaches to the relationship with the Kurdistan Region was reflected in the relations between the leaders of the two sides.[/size]
    [size=45]The President of the Kurdistan Region visited the Emirates twice last year in response to an official invitation from Al Nahyan, and a third time to participate in the funeral for one of his brothers.[/size]
    [size=45]The Emirati Consul in Erbil, Ahmed Al Dhaheri, stressed the strength of relations between Abu Dhabi and Erbil, noting that “His Excellency President Masoud Barzani laid the foundation stone for this relationship,” which is now heading towards a new stage.[/size]
    [size=45]He pointed out that the visit of Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani to the Emirates is “an opportunity to increase the volume of trade exchange between the United Arab Emirates and the Kurdistan Region.”[/size]
    [size=45]In 2007, the UAE was the first country to begin investing in the field of oil and gas in the Kurdistan Region, which distinguished its relations with Erbil compared to other countries in the region.[/size]
    [size=45]The UAE company Dana Gas now plays a major role in producing gas from the Kormor field, the largest gas field in the Kurdistan Region.[/size]

    [size=45]The UAE is known for exercising soft power and has one of the strongest and most stable economies in the world. In this regard, the UAE ranked tenth globally in the Global Soft Power Index for the year 2024, which includes 193 countries.[/size]
    [size=45]One of the most prominent economic features of the UAE is reducing its dependence on oil, as non-oil revenues currently constitute 70% of state revenues.[/size]
    [size=45]The Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, explained on the X platform this May that the volume of non-oil foreign trade of the UAE reached a record level of 3.5 trillion dirhams ($952.93 billion) in 2023.[/size]
    [size=45]According to data from the UAE Ministry of Trade and Industry in June 2023, 150 Emirati companies operate in various fields in the Kurdistan Region, most notably the gas sector.[/size]
    [size=45]Dana Gas plans to expand production from the Kormor field to meet local needs, after the Iraqi government’s interest in purchasing gas from it to reduce dependence on imported gas.[/size]
    [size=45]Iraq, which has been burning associated gas for years, imports gas from Iran.[/size]
    [size=45]It is noteworthy that the volume of UAE investments in the Kurdistan Region amounts to more than 3 billion dollars, and it recently launched agricultural projects in the Kurdistan Region, along with other projects in the tourism, industry and trade sectors.[/size]
