Baghdad / Obelisk: The Finance Committee in the House of Representatives revealed, on Friday, conditions for determining the share of the Kurdistan region in the 2023 budget.
A member of the Finance Committee, Mueen Al-Kazemi, confirmed that "the recent negotiations that took place between the delegation of the Kurdistan Region with the federal government were regarding the oil and gas law."
Al-Kazemi said, “There is a draft by the Ministry of Oil for this law that includes that oil and gas are a national wealth, which must be under the sovereignty of the federal government, and that the export of oil is at the will of the federal government and under the supervision of SOMO Company in the Ministry of Oil.”
He pointed out that “there are opinions that were put forward by the Kurdish delegation regarding the new wells that were developed after 2003. They have an opinion in this regard, and we may reach satisfactory results regarding the oil and gas law, whose approval would end these eternal differences between the region and the center.”
Regarding the region’s share, the member of the Finance Committee explained, “It cannot be determined except after the Kurdistan region provides clear statements about the amount of oil exported from the provinces of the region and from Kirkuk, in addition to the revenues of border crossings, the number of employees working within the region and other matters so that there is clear transparency.” Through it, it is possible to calculate what the Kurdistan region needs for the year 2023.”
