Shafaq News/ The head of the Sadrist bloc, Nassar al-Rubaie, filed a lawsuit against the Iraqi representative of the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, due to her refusal to leave during the speech of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The text of the complaint document received by Shafaq News Agency stated that the complainant, Nassar Zaghir Darbi Al-Rubaie, head of the Sadrist bloc, resides in Baghdad, Al-Karkh, filed a complaint against the defendant, Samar Bashir Al-Qaisi, an employee at the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs / Mission of the Republic of Iraq to the United Nations.
The document stated that the complainant said, “On 9/27/2024, during the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, when the Prime Minister of the Zionist entity, Benjamin Netanyahu, delivered his speech, a large number of participating Arab and Islamic delegations withdrew, and there were protest chants from the delegations during the withdrawal, leaving the conference hall almost empty. However, the complainant (Samar Bashir Al-Qaisi), who is a member of the Iraqi delegation participating in the assembly meetings, did not leave the conference hall.”
He pointed out that "Iraqi laws criminalize this as a result of not recognizing the Zionist entity, such as the Law Criminalizing Normalization with the Zionist Entity No. (1) of 2022, noting that the context known to Iraq and many Arab, Islamic and friendly countries is to withdraw during the speech dedicated to the Zionist entity, which caused a public insult to the Iraqi people and the Arab and Islamic nation and harmed feelings, especially since the Zionist entity is currently committing the most heinous crimes against humanity, war crimes and genocide against our people in Arab Gaza, the Republic of Lebanon and the rest of the Arab and Islamic regions."
He explained that "the act of the complainant constitutes a crime according to the provisions of Article (7) of the Criminalization of Normalization with the Zionist Entity Law No. (1) of 2022 and the provisions of Articles (201, 202, 203) of the Iraqi Penal Code No. (111) of 1969, as amended. Therefore, for the reasons mentioned above, we ask your esteemed court to initiate the complaint and take all legal measures against the complainant (Samar Bashir Al-Qaisi) and anyone proven to be involved in committing the crime."
Meanwhile, a source from the political body of the Shiite National Movement told Shafaq News Agency that the head of the Sadrist bloc, Nassar al-Rubaie, filed the complaint "on the orders of the movement's leader, Muqtada al-Sadr."
