Al-Utbi said in an interview with Al-Maalouma, “Iraqi-Russian relations extend for many decades, and the latter had a positive stance in supporting Baghdad after the events of June 2014 by accelerating the pace of delivering military equipment, including combat aircraft.”
He added, "The Sudanese visit to Moscow in a few days will discuss 7 vital files, most notably military and economic cooperation, especially with the presence of giant oil companies, in addition to the possibility of opening doors for Russian companies to invest in the fields of energy, construction and industry."
He pointed out that "Iraq's neutral position in the Ukrainian crisis will enhance the prospects for the relationship with Russia, which is an important player in the global energy market in addition to being an important source of weapons, including the S-400 systems."
The Kremlin had announced earlier that the Iraqi Prime Minister would visit Moscow and meet Putin next week.
