    Baghdad today - Baghdad
Population density is being witnessed in Iraq, amid a movement to contain the housing crisis and congestion in some cities, while parliamentary bodies point to three reasons for the success of “vertical construction” in containing the housing crisis, while the government is moving in six ways to end the crisis.
Earlier, the Ministry of Planning stated that estimates of the population of Iraq for the year 2022 amounted to 42 million, 248 thousand and 883 people, with an annual increase rate of 2.5%. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
    Vertical construction
Member of the Parliamentary Services Committee, MP Baqir Al-Saadi, today, Thursday (October 19, 2023), pointed out three reasons for the success of vertical construction in Iraq.
Al-Saadi said in an interview with "Baghdad Today", "The housing crisis in Iraq is approaching its peak in light of the accumulated mistakes made by successive governments in dealing with the crisis, which caused the creation of slums, abuses, and the bulldozing of tens of thousands of agricultural lands and orchards, especially in the centers of the main cities and their environs."
Al-Saadi explained, “Vertical construction is one of the solutions that most countries in the world have resorted to in dealing with the housing crisis, but its success in Iraq is linked to three reasons: attractive prices and services, and changing the cultural compass of large segments about the possibility of vertical construction being a good alternative to horizontal construction.”
    Government solutions
Al-Saadi points out that "there are many successful experiences, perhaps the most prominent of which is the Bismaya residential complex, which currently attracts thousands of families."
A member of the Parliamentary Services Committee explains that “the Sudanese government has currently adopted six important solutions in addressing the housing crisis, the most prominent of which is strong openness to the investment file in this sector and giving high flexibility in granting licenses,” stressing that “vertical construction will be a more attractive point than now whenever it is available.” Services and attractive prices.
On (October 16, 2023), the Parliamentary Reconstruction and Services Committee confirmed that the housing crisis in Iraq is on its way to being resolved, by relying on new residential cities.
Committee member Heba Jarjis told Baghdad Today, “The housing crisis in Iraq is on its way to being resolved within the next few years, through building various residential cities in the capital, Baghdad, and other Iraqi governorates. These cities will solve the crisis in a very significant way.”
The Council of Ministers had previously agreed to refer 4 out of 5 residential cities to investment, as these residential cities will provide approximately 200,000 housing units in 5 governorates, where the government will impose fixed prices to prevent price speculation.
The deficit in housing units in Iraq amounts to more than 3 million housing units, while the government plans to establish 20 residential cities, including the five cities mentioned. The total of these residential cities will provide 700 thousand housing units, which means that they are sufficient to fill only 23% of the total deficit.
