International organization: 64 thousand displaced people in Iraq are living in very bad conditions

The International Organization for Migration revealed in a report that there are more than 64,000 displaced people in Iraq, constituting 7% of the total number of displaced people in the country, living in very poor conditions, seven years after the end of the war with ISIS, noting that most of them are stationed in the governorates. Salah al-Din, Anbar, Nineveh, and Diyala.
The international organization states in its report that with the end of the war with ISIS in Iraq, the chronic problem of displacement has become a feature of the post-war environment in the country, noting that there are still 1.14 million people living in a state of displacement between very harsh, moderate and mild living conditions, almost all of whom were displaced from Their areas of original residence and they have been in camps or displacement sites for more than five years.
The organization says that in light of the above, it is necessary to introduce sustainable solutions to the problem of displacement in Iraq by improving living conditions to enable displaced people to take voluntary steps towards returning to their areas and integrating with the local community or settling in new places and locations.
The International Organization for Migration began its seventh tour to review the conditions of the displaced for the period between May and August of the current year 2023, across 18 governorates, including 103 regions and 2,614 sites throughout Iraq, and to evaluate their conditions whether they returned to their original areas or moved to another displacement site.
The IDP Situation Index is a tool used by the international organization to measure the extent of poor living conditions in displacement sites. This tool is based on 20 indicators across 5 axes that include living and housing conditions, infrastructure and services, aspects of safety and security, and finally community harmony. These indicators show the living conditions of displaced people in three categories, including low-severity, moderate-severity, and severe-severe living conditions.
The International Organization's assessment of the living conditions of the displaced showed that out of 2,614 sites across the country that were reviewed in the seventh round, there are 126 sites in which the displaced live in very severe living conditions, indicating that these sites shelter 7% of the total number of displaced people in the country, or that their number reaches 7%. 64 thousand and 212 people.
The organization indicated in its report that there are 529 other sites for displaced people that were assessed to have moderate living conditions, as these sites house 26% of the total number of displaced people, or that their number is 251 thousand and 412 people, and that there are 1,959 other sites whose living conditions were poor. The intensity is low, and they constitute 67% of the total number of displaced people, or their number is 650,112 people.
The international organization revealed in its report that Salah al-Din, Anbar, and Nineveh are the governorates that contain the largest number of displaced people who live in very poor conditions, as Salah al-Din Governorate includes 20,328 displaced persons, Anbar 16,530 displaced persons, and Nineveh 11,592 displaced persons. .
The organization says in its report that during the period between the sixth round, which began from January to April 2023, and the seventh round, which began from May to August 2023, the largest number of displaced people living in very poor living conditions was recorded in Diyala Governorate, at 1,650 displaced people, and the concentration of these people was Displaced people in Al-Khalis and Baqubah. The reasons for their poor living conditions were related to their limited share of electrical energy due to problems related to transmission lines, as well as their scarcity of water.
The report also showed the poor living conditions of displaced people in both the Tarmiyah and Abu Ghraib areas for reasons related to the lack of electrical power supply and the lack of job opportunities, as unemployment is widespread and a lack of daily income. For these reasons, there are very few families in the region who can meet their basic needs.
The Ministry of Migration and Displacement had indicated in a statement yesterday, Wednesday, the intensification of efforts to accelerate the implementation of the national plan to return the displaced and completely close the displacement file. The statement stated that the Minister of Migration and Displacement, Evan Faiq Jabro, participated in a workshop organized by the Ministry in cooperation with the United Nations to develop a road map to accelerate the implementation of The National Plan for the Return of Displaced Persons.
