Today, Wednesday (November 15, 2023), the representative of the coordination framework, Karim Aliwi, commented on the selection of the new Iraqi parliament speaker according to specific specifications.
Aliwi told “Baghdad Today” that “the selection of the new speaker of parliament must be done according to specific specifications and standards, the most important of which are competence and activity, and that he have good and good relations with all political parties, in order to coordinate positions for parliamentary work with its legislative and supervisory side.” ".
He stressed that "the House of Representatives needs a new president who will be active by activating important laws for the purpose of legislating them, in addition to activating Parliament's oversight role by activating the interrogation files submitted to the Presidency of the Council, as this role has been almost inactive throughout the past period."
Yesterday afternoon, Tuesday (November 14, 2023), the Federal Court issued a decision that shook the political and perhaps popular circles in Iraq, stipulating the cancellation of the membership of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Muhammad Al-Halbousi, from Parliament, as the highest authority in the country ruled to revoke Al-Halbousi’s membership, as well as a member Another, Laith Al-Dulaimi, considering that both seats are now vacant.
He considered the decision to be the youngest person to assume the position of Speaker of Parliament in the history of Iraq, “a strange decision,” while he said, “There are those who seek to fragment social components.”
The reason for the dismissal of Muhammad Al-Halbousi
The conflict that broke out between Muhammad Al-Halbousi on the one hand and a member of the Council called Laith Al-Dulaimi, on the other hand, is considered the main reason for his dismissal, as Al-Dulaimi resorted to the Federal Court after Al-Halbousi decided to remove him from his position in the House of Representatives, so the Federal Court finally decided to dismiss both of them from their positions. In Parliament.

The matter did not end there, but three ministers submitted their resignation from the federal government, yesterday evening, Tuesday, in protest against the Federal Supreme Court’s decision to terminate Muhammad al-Halbousi’s membership in Parliament.
The Taqaddam Party, headed by Al-Halbousi, said in a statement: The three ministers who belong to it, namely the Minister of Planning, Muhammad Al-Tamim, the Minister of Industry, Khaled Battal, and the Minister of Culture, Ahmed Al-Badrani, submitted a collective resignation. In response to the termination of Al-Halbousi’s membership in the House of Representatives.
The party considered that the Federal Court’s decision regarding Al-Halbousi constituted a “flagrant constitutional violation and clear political targeting.”
It seems that the dismissal of Al-Halbousi from the membership and presidency of Parliament will keep the battle of political conflicts open, until a way is found to the dilemma of finding an alternative, which is currently focused on choosing a national figure away from the suspicious financial deals that, according to observers, are what placed Muhammad Rekan Al-Halbousi in the chair of the legislative authority for two consecutive terms.
