In this regard, MP Raed Al-Maliki said in a tweet on the "X" platform, followed by Sumaria News, that "the statement of the American ambassador is a blatant interference in the work of the legislative authority, and the proposed amendment gives freedom to Iraqis in their personal status, so is America for freedom or against it?"

He asked: "Did America have the same position with Kuwait, which recently approved the Jaafari Personal Status Law, or is it the American guardianship over Iraq?"

Al-Maliki called on: "All embassies and international missions not to rely on the words of organizations and activists who conveyed to them false and misleading information about the proposal to amend the Personal Status Law in order to obtain funds to finance their fictitious activities under the pretext of protecting women and children."

Earlier today, the United States expressed its position on the proposed amendments to the Iraqi Personal Status Law.

The US Ambassador to Iraq said:[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]Elena Romanowski in a blog post on the (X) platform: “We are concerned about proposed amendments to the Iraqi Personal Status Law that would undermine the rights of women and children.”

She added: “We urge Iraqis to engage in a civil dialogue that fully respects freedom of religion or belief and the rights of women and children.”
