    Baghdad today - Baghdad
Today, Tuesday (December 5, 2023), the Extension Parliamentary Bloc announced an appeal against the illegality of the extraordinary sessions of the House of Representatives regarding amending the Election Commission Law.
The head of the bloc, Haider Al-Salami, said in a statement received by “Baghdad Today”, that “in line with the function and jurisdiction of the Federal Supreme Court and in implementation of the provisions of the Constitution and the law of the House of Representatives and its formations, and in accordance with what was stated in the internal regulations of the House of Representatives, and to ensure the constitutionality of the work of the House of Representatives, and the lack of qualitative infringement of the texts.” Governing and organizing its work and the jurisdiction of its body and components, we took the initiative to appeal the outcomes of the extraordinary sessions of the fifth session, which were held on November 18 and 22, 2023.”
Al-Salami considered, “The session was invalid, including the amendment to the Independent High Electoral Commission Law No. 31 of 2019, as it violates the law and internal regulations, which constitutes a clear constitutional violation.”
On November 18, 2023, the House of Representatives held an extraordinary session headed by First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, during which it finished reading a report and discussing the proposed law amending the Independent High Electoral Commission Law No. (31) of 2019.
