    Baghdad today - Baghdad
Today, Tuesday (April 30, 2024), the former representative of Kirkuk, Ahmed Haider, identified the most important differences that hinder the birth of the local government, while noting that there are disagreements about how to manage it and its fate, accompanied by a lack of trust.
Haider said in an interview with “Baghdad Today” that “Kirkuk has a diverse composition and is one of the complex governorates,” noting that “there are disagreements about how to manage it and its fate, accompanied by a lack of trust between the political and not the social components due to wrong policies in previous experiences that generated this trend that is not Two people disagree about it.”
Haider added, "The events of 2017 brought a new page to Kirkuk, providing all its components with the opportunity to prove their existence, but on the other hand, they generated unrealistic political desires among some by giving pledges and commitments to its masses that cannot be achieved because the province cannot be managed except through a consensual principle among its components." ", stressing that "political ceilings are what hinders the formation of the local government, accompanied by accumulations before and after 2003."
He pointed out that "Baghdad's intervention in resolving the Kirkuk problem is necessary, and there were meetings under Sudanese supervision for its elites and political lists in order to develop a solution that satisfies all parties, or at least determine a starting point for moving forward," pointing out that "setting a timetable for the birth of the government is a fantasy, but It can be resolved in hours or remain stuck for many months because the matter requires will and the presentation of realistic demands to all forces.”
He continued, "The Kurdish, Arab and Turkmen forces promised their masses that the position of governor would be their share, and everyone has become embarrassed," pointing out that "even the principle of rotating management of the position of governor has become a matter of disagreement over who starts first. Therefore, it is not possible to say with certainty a specific date for resolving the Kirkuk problem, whether soon or not." for long periods."
The coordinator of the Arab Opinion Committee in Kirkuk, Nazim Al-Shammari, confirmed on Friday (April 26, 2024) that the problem of forming the local government in Kirkuk is complicated.
Al-Shammari said in an interview with “Baghdad Today” that “the Kirkuk problem is becoming more complicated, and each party is adhering to its opinion, and there is no solution to get out of the current crisis and name the governor, the head of the provincial council, and their deputies.”
He added, "Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani must intervene to find a way out of the crisis that has become complicated, and the best solution is to rotate the position of Kirkuk governor between the three components, the Kurds, the Turkmen, and the Arabs."
Both Arabs and Kurds hold on to the position of governor of Kirkuk, which has prevented the first session of the provincial council from being held so far, along with Diyala province, among the 15 provinces in Iraq.
