    Baghdad Today - Special
Today, Monday (July 1, 2024), member of the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee, Yasser Iskandar, revealed the most prominent reasons that contributed to the increase in the tally of the “black list of wanted persons” in the country, including redrawing security plans.
Iskandar said in an interview with "Baghdad Today", "By making a simple comparison of the size of the achievements of the security forces, including national security, during the first half of 2024, we observe an increase in the rate of what was achieved through exposing extortion operations and arresting those accused of terrorism and organized crime in all its titles at a level exceeding At least 30% compared to previous years of the same period.”
He added, "Changes in the structure of security institutions, the infusion of new blood, a re-drawing of plans and strategies, and greater involvement in the use of modern technologies in monitoring and follow-up are among the most prominent reasons that contributed to increasing the number of the blacklist of those wanted on various charges, whether terrorist or criminal," noting that “The arrests do not mean an increase in criminal activity, but rather they are an extension of crimes that occurred years ago, some of which are ongoing, including drug crimes and extortion.”
Iskandar explained, "Security in Iraq is in the right direction in terms of its general strategies and future plans, and we cannot forget the role of the Ministry of Interior, which succeeded in activating its institutions in a way that contributed to achieving many positive results in recent months."
It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Interior and other security agencies announce, from time to time, the arrest of dozens of people wanted by the judiciary in various Iraqi governorates, after carrying out a series of preemptive and intelligence operations, which contributed to reducing acts of violence and stabilizing the security situation.
