The President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Masoud Barzani, praised the efforts of the Federal and Kurdistan Integrity Commissions in combating corruption, stressing his support for them.
A statement from Barzani's residence in Salah al-Din said that the latter received a joint delegation from the Federal Integrity Commission, Judge Haider Hanoun, and the Integrity Commission in the Kurdistan Region, Ahmed Anwar. Discussions were held on the latest measures and steps taken by the Federal Integrity Commission and the Integrity Commission in the Kurdistan Region to establish transparency, combat corruption, and achieve justice.
President Barzani expressed his appreciation for the efforts and endeavors of the two commissions, and in addition to affirming his support for them, he expressed his wishes for the two integrity commissions to succeed in performing their tasks and duties.
Earlier today, the head of the Federal Integrity Commission, Haider Hanoun, held a press conference in Erbil, during which he revealed the secrets of the “theft of the century” that shook the political circles in the country.
The head of the Integrity Commission expressed his anger over what he described as the weakening of the commission and the disappearance of files from the case of the accused Nour Zuhair with Judge Diaa Jaafar, stressing that these developments constitute a major challenge to efforts to combat corruption and recover looted state funds.
Hanoun explained during the conference that Nour Zuhair's file, which was referred to the Central Criminal Court, contains 114 financial instruments, noting that the law requires opening 114 separate cases, but they were dealt with as one case.
Hanoun added: “I want the parliament to ask me why only one case was opened, despite the existence of other crimes by Nour Zuhair, including tampering with 420 acres of land in Basra, which were registered under fictitious names,” noting that “this case was transferred to Baghdad based on the decision of Judge Diaa Jaafar Lafta.”
Hanoun continued, “There are other corruption cases that have been uncovered, including the theft of railways estimated at $18 billion, where the railways were sold in their entirety and no action has been taken by Judge Diaa Jaafar for two months.”
During the conference, Hanoun confirmed that “Nour Zuhair is involved in stealing customs deposits worth more than a trillion dinars,” demanding “holding a public session in the presence of Judge Diaa Jaafar to reveal the full facts to the people.”
Hanoun accused Judge Diaa Jaafar, stressing that the latter had issued an arrest warrant against him and that he was personally pursuing him.
The House of Representatives also demanded proof of whether the Integrity Commission was favouring the corrupt or covering up the looted money of the people.
Hanoun also called on the Supreme Judicial Council to replace the Integrity Commission judges annually to ensure integrity and transparency in dealing with major corruption cases.
He stressed that he would rather be imprisoned with honor than cover up for the defendants in the “theft of the century” case.
