A member of the council said[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]Majed Sinjari, in a press statement that I followed[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]News, "The regional government directed its observations regarding these areas to the federal government, including Sinjar district, where about 80 percent of its population is still displaced in the cities of the Kurdistan Region."

He added that "the region called for including these people within their original areas so that there would be no demographic change in these areas," explaining that "what gives some reassurance in the census is the absence of a field for nationality, so nothing can be relied upon in the coming period that nationality has been calculated in these areas. This point may be clear that there was no field for nationality so that there would be confirmation or reliance on these numbers or data in the coming period in political matters related to the identity of these areas."

Sinjari continued, “Today, we cannot rely on this census based on the identity of these areas because most of them are displaced, not only in Sinjar, but also in Jurf al-Sakhr in Babylon and areas of Salah al-Din and Diyala.” He pointed out that “the Kurdish blocs have demanded that the census be postponed, and meetings are being held between the Ministries of Planning in the region and the federal government, as well as meetings with the Central Statistical Organization in[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]And the region to solve problems related to the problem.

Sinjari believes that "the remaining period for conducting the census is less than a month, which may witness the resolution of many problems," stressing "the importance of conducting this census, which will be recorded for the government because it will be the first after 2003."

Kurdish fears of conducting the census lie in the fact that it will provide legal cover for the demographic changes that the disputed areas have witnessed over the past years. Therefore, the region’s approval of conducting it awaits reassurance from the Iraqi government and a settlement of the problems of these areas.
