    Economy News - Follow-up
[rtl]New Zealand has reached a trade agreement with the six Gulf Cooperation Council countries, which Wellington says will provide huge opportunities for New Zealand exporters in the Middle East.[/rtl]
[rtl]The trade agreement would eliminate tariffs on about 51% of New Zealand's exports to the region from day one and provide duty-free access to about 99% of New Zealand's exports over 10 years, New Zealand Trade Minister Todd McClay said in a statement late Thursday.[/rtl]
[rtl]"Concluding a trade agreement with the Gulf Cooperation Council has been an ambition of successive governments for nearly two decades," Maclay added in Doha, according to Reuters.[/rtl]
[rtl]The statement did not specify when the agreement would enter into force.[/rtl]
[rtl]The agreement with the Gulf states comes after New Zealand signed a trade agreement with the UAE in September.[/rtl]
[rtl]According to official data, the volume of trade between New Zealand and the Gulf Cooperation Council exceeds 3 billion New Zealand dollars annually.[/rtl]
