    Cowboys Should Take Care Of Lions In Week 16

    The Dallas Cowboys host the Detroit Lions in the last “Monday Night Football” game of the 2016 NFL season. There’s a good chance both teams will end up in the playoffs, but the complexion of the contest took a major turn with the result of “Thursday Night Football” in Week 16.
    When the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the New York Giants Thursday night, Monday’s game became meaningless for the Cowboys. Dallas clinched both the NFC East title and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs with New York’s loss, while Detroit is still fighting for their postseason lives.
    The Lions enter Week 16 atop the NFC North. If the Green Bay Packers beat the Minnesota Vikings on Christmas Eve, the matchup between Green Bay and Detroit in Week 17 will be for the division title. Detroit can make the postseason as a wild-card team in multiple scenarios.
    Even though the Cowboys have nothing to play for, they are still heavy favorites ahead of Monday’s contest. Dallas is a 6.5-point favorite at home, and the over/under is 44, via OddsShark.
    If this was the season finale, the Cowboys’ chance to win would be significantly decreased. Head coach Jason Garrett might choose to rest most of his starters in Week 17 for much of the game. But considering Dallas is still three weeks away from their playoff game because of the first-round bye, it’s hard to believe that the Cowboys won’t be at full strength and ready to go in their upcoming nationally televised contest.

    Dak Prescott proved that his struggles against the Giants in Week 14 were largely an aberration with a 99.0 passer rating in a victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Ezekiel Elliott has been just about unstoppable in his rookie season, and he should have a big night against the Lions, who let the Giants’ poor rushing attack rack up 114 yards on the ground last week.
    When Dallas is at their best, they are the NFC’s best team and well ahead of Detroit. The Lions have been fortunate to win nine games, needing a record eight fourth-quarter comebacks in order to do so.
    Through 14 games, the Lions haven’t defeated a team that is currently in the postseason. Wins against teams like the Indianapolis Colts, Washington Redskins and Minnesota Vikings don’t look as impressive as they once did. Detroit is 0-3 against teams that hold postseason spots, losing each contest by at least seven points.
    After losing by 11 points on the road against the Giants, the Lions should have a similar performance in Week 16.

    Prediction: Dallas over Detroit, 24-13
