    The General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, that the Iraqi government is seeking to reduce poverty through the adoption of an economic policy that is consistent with the financial situation of the country.
    A statement by the Secretariat that "the Secretary-General of the Council of Minister Mahdi Keywords Chairman of the Technical Committee of the Poverty Reduction Strategy discussed the observations contained in the World Bank report on the second strategy to alleviate poverty in Iraq for the years 2017-2021." 
    He added, "The meeting which was attended by several members of the House of Representatives, experts and academics, as well as representatives of the relevant agencies and ministries [planning, finance, commerce, labor and social affairs, health, environment, education, construction and housing and public works, agriculture, and representatives of the Kurdistan region and organizations civil society, discussed the objective evaluation of the process of what has been accomplished and what has not been achieved and what should be added or edited, or deleted in the new strategy after reviewing the matrix of activities in response to the observations of the World Bank. " 
    He stressed Keywords "the importance of coordinating activities to prevent overlap between the projects guaranteed by the relevant authorities in the new strategy," pointing to "the need to take into account the latest developments in the country, especially the situation of displaced persons who have turned many of those who were above the poverty line to below the poverty line, according to our perspective because of the loss of their jobs or their businesses or homes or property as a result of terrorist Daesh, which was accompanied by a large collapse in oil prices, which is the backbone of the resources of the state. " 
    The statement pointed out that "the meeting concluded to hold a workshop on the said agencies to prioritize projects and activities finalized to return to the World Bank." 
    He noted that "the government is seeking through this strategy, seeking to reduce poverty, through the adoption of an economic policy that is consistent with the financial situation, which is currently experienced by Iraq, and the output of the drop in oil prices worldwide, also provides for the establishment of a special fund to finance poverty projects, through allocations Finance in the federal budget or donations that may be obtained by the government from donors. " 
    The Planning Minister Salman Jumaili, it was announced on the eighth of last month's increase in the rate of poverty rates in Iraq to around 30 per cent and the unemployment rate to about 20 per cent. 
    The supreme religious authority warned last Friday of the growing phenomenon of poverty and its threat to the community.
