The first preparatory meeting for the 28 th Arab Summit, scheduled for March 29th, in the Dead Sea region of Jordan, will be held at the meeting of senior officials of the Economic and Social Council of the League of Arab States.
In his address to the opening session, Yousuf Al Shamali, Secretary General of Jordan's Ministry of Industry and Trade, stressed that the potential, location and resources of our Arab and human nation are driving us to seek Arab economic cooperation and the development of Arab inter-Arab investment, which does not exceed 20%.
Al-Shamali reviewed the Arab trade file, describing it as still under the aspirations of the Arab peoples. He called for the removal of all obstacles and restrictions that prevent the increase of intra-Arab trade, which currently exceeds 10% for Arab trade with the world.
He added that the Jordanian role in the summit will not be confined to the rotating presidency, but that it is committed to working to find solutions to the problems that are afflicting our Arab region, pointing out that the common will will enhance joint Arab action, especially at this stage in which we are looking for decisions that reflect the aspirations of our peoples. Arab cooperation, promoting the Arab joint action process, and activating the role of the Arab League and its organizations.
Al-Shamali warned that the Arab region faces unprecedented challenges and that the conditions of the Arab Summit require coordination and cooperation among all parties, which will help unite the Arab ranks to meet these challenges.
For his part, Ambassador Badruddin Al-Alali, Assistant Secretary-General for Social Affairs at the League of Arab States, said that the meeting of senior officials of the Economic and Social Council would discuss the economic and social issues.
He added that this issue must be directly reflected on the Arab citizen and feel it. He stressed the importance of this meeting to crystallize innovative mechanisms to promote the process of economic development work within the framework of the joint Arab action. The economic and social sides are the main lever for cooperation and integration between our Arab countries.
The Council will consider the economic and social issues that will be submitted to the Ministerial Meeting of the Council in preparation for the Arab Summit, which includes the semi-interim report for the Arab Atomic Energy Commission for the implementation of the Arab Strategies for the Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy until 2020 and the achievements of the Commission. The achievements and requirements of the Greater Arab Free Trade Area and the Arab Customs Union, and the vision, proposals and visions of Arab businessmen for the role of the joint Arab action system, the Arab strategy for scientific research and technological innovation, Arab and United Nations systems in economic and social aspects.
The meeting will also discuss the unified agreement for the investment of the amended Arab capital and the draft of the green belts in the Arab countries
