What Would be the Right Deal to Move Down? Plus Charity Classic

    QUICK HITS: JUNE 7, 2017

    1) While it is unlikely that the Flyers move down in the first round, it is intriguing to consider what general manager Ron Hextall might consider a can't refuse offer to give up the opportunity to draft either Nolan Patrick or Nico Hischier. Some thoughts: A deal that sends to Philly a skilled current NHL roster player who is still reasonably young plus the trade partner's 2018 first-round pick swap option (Flyers' call) in addition to swapping this year's first-round picks (preferably with the Flyers still able to stay in the top 10) would be something the Flyers would have to seriously consider.

For example, a team such as the Colorado Avalanche could have the elements it would take -- a player such as Gabriel Landeskog or Matt Duchene, the 4th overall pick in 2017 and the chance for a first-round pick swap in 2018 to be an enticing option -- to make such an offer. How likely is another team to offer up that much return for Patrick or Hischier? Not very likely. That's why, in most every probable scenario, the Flyers simply stand pat and use the second overall pick.

    2) There are now five different Flyers Alumni-captained teams that anyone can join for the Flyers Charity Classic on July 16, 2017: Brian Propp is heading Propper Guffaw, Ian Laperriere will captain Lappy's Team, while the already announced teams of Ides of Marsh (Brad Marsh) Bernie's Italian-French Connection (Bernie and Gini Parent) and Holmgren's Heroes (Paul Holmgren). For more information, click here.

    3) Today in Flyers history: In Game 3 of the 1995 Eastern Conference Final, the Flyers trailed 2-1 until the latter stages of the third period when Rod Brind'Amour knotted the score. At 4:19 of overtime, Eric Lindros took a cross-ice pass from Mikael Renberg and wired a shot from just above the circle past Martin Brodeur to cut the Flyers' series deficit to two games to one.
