Israel forbids men under fifty to perform Friday prayers at al-Aqsa

Israeli police announced that men under 50 were prevented from performing Friday prayers at the Temple Mount in the wake of confrontations between Palestinians and Israeli security forces in the courtyard of Al-Aqsa mosque after two weeks of worshipers.

Two weeks ago, the Palestinians refused to enter the Al-Aqsa Mosque to protest the installation of electronic gates at its doors and continued their demonstrations until they forced the Israeli authorities to remove those gates.

Muslims will be able to perform Friday prayers at the Temple Mount, for the first time in two weeks, after being deprived of it in the previous two sessions, making this Friday exceptional for the Palestinians.

Fearful of renewed protests, Israeli police applied stifling measures around the Al-Aqsa Mosque. "The security situation is being assessed and there are signs of disturbances and demonstrations today," she said in a statement.

"Only men over 50 and women of all ages will be allowed to enter. A number of roads will be closed around the Old City and all necessary security measures will be taken to prevent or counter any violence. " According to the statement.

After the removal of electronic gates and security screening devices at the gates of Al Aqsa, thousands of worshipers entered the evening prayer tool on Thursday and clashes broke out with the Israeli security forces, resulting in dozens of injured.

In a statement issued on Thursday evening, the Jerusalem Waqf Directorate said that more than 100 citizens of the al-Aqsa Mosque were arrested and scores injured.

The statement added that the Israeli occupation authorities arrested the guard of Al-Aqsa Mosque Khaled Shroana after storming and besieging the tribal mosque and the launch of a barrage of rubber bullets and sound bombs on the worshipers. According to Sky News.
